Safe and Inclusive Cities Programme

Proportion

The Safe and Inclusive Cities Programme is implemented in Kenya through the support of Plan International Kenya.

The programme is based on three thematic areas of Safety in Public Transport, Decent Income and Participatory Governance.

In Kenya, the programme is implemented in Nairobi and Kisumu Counties while in Kisumu it is implemented in Nyalenda and Kondele Wards.

Talanta Africa implements the Safety in Public Transport component in Kondele Ward which specifically intends to shrink the spaces and enablers that facilitate the perpetration of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence within Public Transport spaces by convening dialogue sessions at the grassroots and County level which bring together operators (Matatu, Piki Piki and Tuk Tuk), consumers of public transport and friends of the transporter.

The project works with both local and county level stakeholders in ensuring that survivors of violence get the justice deserved through a comprehensive referral pathway centred around a Call-in number managed by Safe Public Transport Ambassadors at the Talanta Africa level.
