Climate Justice / Gender Equality

Climate change is not a neutral crisis. Marginalized communities, including the LGBTQI+ population, are disproportionately affected.

They often have fewer resources to recover from climate-related disasters and face exclusion from community-based relief efforts. Furthermore, the fight for climate justice is intrinsically linked to social and gender equality.

Our Strategic Approach: We build a “community of practice” to:

  • Build Resilience: Train LGBTQI+ youth in climate-smart, sustainable practices to mitigate economic shocks.
  • Advocate for Inclusion: Ensure LGBTQI+ people are included in climate adaptation planning and disaster response strategies at the county level.
  • Connect the Dots: Educate both the community and allies on how securing Social, Cultural, and Economic (SOCIE-SC) rights strengthens collective resilience to climate change.

Ultimate Goal: A resilient LGBTQI+ community that is recognized as a vital partner in building a sustainable and equitable future for all in Western Kenya.
