LGBTQI+ individuals in Kenya often face severe stigma and discrimination in public health facilities. This leads to avoidance of care, late diagnosis of conditions like HIV, and a lack of culturally competent services for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The fear of being “outed” or mistreated is a significant barrier to achieving health equity.
Our Strategic Approach: We work on two fronts: demand and supply.
We empower our community with knowledge (e.g., through our PrEP Amini Series and Jilinde App) to demand their right to health.
We lobby public health systems to create Youth Friendly Centers (YFCs) and Gender-Based Violence Recovery Centers (GBVRCs) that are explicitly LGBTQI+-friendly, ensuring access to quality, stigma-free SRHR services, HIV prevention, and SGBV response.
Ultimate Goal: A healthcare system where an LGBTQI+ person can walk into any clinic in Western Kenya and receive dignified, respectful, and comprehensive care without fear.
