Policy Advocacy and Lobbying

Many national and county-level laws and policies in Kenya are either actively discriminatory (like Penal Code 162, which criminalizes same-sex relations) or silently ignore the existence and rights of LGBTQI+ people.

This creates a legal environment that fosters violence, discrimination in employment and housing, and denies access to essential services.

Our Strategic Approach: We use evidence from our grassroots work to advocate for change.

This includes:

  • Repealing Harmful Laws: Lobbying for the repeal of discriminatory legislation.
  • Influencing Inclusive Policies: Drafting and advocating for the adoption of progressive policies on Mental Health, SRHR, and Employment that explicitly protect and include LGBTQI+ people.
  • Strategic Litigation: Exploring legal avenues to challenge unjust laws and practices.

Ultimate Goal: A legal and policy framework at county and national levels that recognizes, protects, and celebrates the rights of every LGBTQI+ individual in Kenya.
